Styrofoam Collection
Only clean, white, packing Styrofoam is accepted, with all stickers, tape and writing removed. Clean white coolers from online food and medicine deliveries are acceptable with writing/labels removed. Styrofoam can be dropped off at the DPW Garage (880 Somerset Street) Monday to Friday between 7am and 3:30pm. Make sure to follow all rules.
New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program can help you responsibly recycle your working refrigerator and/or freezer for FREE and provide a $50 incentive. You'll be glad to know that approximately 95% of each appliance is recycled. We safely dispose of hazardous chemicals, minimizing waste and environmental impact. Please note that the recycling pickups are now contactless, which means your appliance(s) will be picked up either outside or in an open garage. We are now expanding the eligible appliances to include removal of working room air conditioners and dehumidifiers. You will receive a $25 incentive for each unit recycled; however, the room air conditioners and/or dehumidifiers must be picked up during the same appointment as the refrigerator or freezer. Somerset County no longer accepts textiles at First Saturday of the Month drop-offs. Please continue to recycle your used textiles at any local charity donation bin.

Canned goods and non-perishable food donations for in-need residents are welcome at First Saturday of the Month drop-off events, or put canned goods in a plastic bag on your usual recycling pickup dates. Items are delivered to the Food Bank Network of Somerset County. Perishable items and food in glass containers are not accepted.
Household hazardous waste and electronic waste are not accepted on First Saturday of the Month drop-off events at the recycling center. You can recycle household hazardous waste at any of the five scheduled Household Hazardous Waste drop-off events held at various locations around the county. Electronics can be dropped off free of charge on certain Saturdays in Hillsborough and weekdays at a Bridgewater and Hillsborough location.

Dear Resident:
Congratulations on receiving your two new 65 gallon recycling "totes". They have wheels to easily move around and have lids that are permanently attached.
The equipment that will collect these totes will employ a state-of the-art truck that not only services customers quickly, but also addresses the safety and health concerns of employees. The new technology eliminates the need to physically lift and dump the totes, reducing many injuries, particularly to the back and shoulder areas.
These totes are supplied by Somerset County for the collection of RECYCLING
ONLY. They will remain the property of Somerset County and if you move, you must leave the totes for the next owner. Please remember that the totes will be your
responsibility to properly care for and store. Any loss or damages done to the totes by you will carry a fee. These totes cost approximately $35.00 each.
If during the course of normal wear and tear your totes become unusable, please call us to arrange for a repair or a swap out if necessary.
When you receive the totes:
- Place the totes curbside the NIGHT BEFORE your scheduled pick up.
- The totes must be placed no further than 3 feet from the edge of the street with the wheels facing your house and the front of the totes facing the street, with a two foot spacing between totes.
- Totes must not be placed behind cars, mailboxes, telephone poles, garbage calls, or any obstruction that will make it difficult for the operator to pick them up.
- These totes are to be used for RECYCLING ONLY.
- Do not place trash, bulk debris, wood, grass, dirt, paint cans, hazardous chemicals, or any other materials that would not be considered recycling.
- All separated recycling must be placed inside the totes. Each tote is labeled for the type of material that should be placed inside. All cardboard boxes are to be broken/cut down to fit into the recycling tote.
- You may keep your 20 gallon recycling container for any extra recyclable material, or contact us and we will pick up the old container.
