Owners of one and two family dwellings used for residential purposes are required to apply for and obtain the required Certificate of Smoke Alarm, Carbon Monoxide Alarm and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance prior to any change in the occupancy. This Inspection is scheduled with the owner upon receipt of a completed Application and fee.
The Bureau of Fire Prevention handles all complaints that violate the Uniform Fire Code for the State of New Jersey and The Watchung Borough Ordinances. The Fire Official performs required Origin and Cause investigations of fire incidents and provides public fire prevention programs in conjunction with the Watchung Volunteer Fire Department.
New Jersey Division of Fire Safety Highlights the Importance of Lithium-ion Battery Safety
The public is using an increasing number of lithium-ion batteries in devices such as smartphones, laptops, e-cigarettes, e-bikes, cars and more due to their ability to store a significant amount of energy in a small space. While they are safe to use and offer many benefits if handled improperly they may explode and cause extreme fires. The likelihood of lithium-ion batteries overheating, catching on fire, and even leading to explosions increases when they are damaged or improperly used, charged, or stored. By following safety guidelines, you can mitigate the potential risks. For information on how to safely use and store lithium batteries, check out the flyer posted or please visit: https://www.nj.gov/dca/news/news/2023/approved/20230630c.shtml
