Mosquito-borne illness is transmitted to individuals by the bite of an infected mosquito. Mosquitoes become infected when they feed on birds or mammals carrying disease.
Symptoms may occur 3–14 days following the bite of an infected mosquito.
Everyone is at risk for mosquito-borne diseases, especially those who spend more time outside. Older adults and people with weak immune systems are more at risk to develop serious illness.
If you or a family member think they have a mosquito-borne illness, call and visit a healthcare provider.

Standing water is an area where mosquitoes breed. It only takes 7–10 days for mosquitoes to complete their life cycle. Do your part and prevent mosquitoes!
If you are traveling, visit the CDC guide to avoiding bug bites while traveling to learn about preventing vector-borne disease.
